  1. Split bagels evenly through the center.
  2. Toast cut-side up until warm and lightly crisp, about 3–5 minutes. If using a slightly stale bagel, lightly moisten the outside with the teaspoon of water before warming in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5 minutes.
  3. Let stand for 1 minute so the cream cheese does not melt immediately.
  4. Spread each bagel with half the cream cheese and serve.
