Ingredients

Volumes are approximate. For baking, use a scale; Metric keeps the specified gram weights.

Let’s make it

  1. Heat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place four bread slices on a bare rimmed baking sheet and toast 4-5 minutes. Flip and toast another 2-3 minutes until dry on both faces but not deeply browned.
  2. Mix drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, scallion, lemon juice, mustard and pepper. Break up large tuna flakes without mashing the filling into a paste.
  3. Divide filling evenly over the toasted slices, keeping it within the bread edges. Divide grated cheddar evenly over the filling. Bake on the middle rack 8-12 minutes until the center of each topping reaches 165°F (74°C) and cheese is melted with golden spots.
  4. Rest 2 minutes, then serve one melt per portion. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours, use within 3-4 days and reheat to 165°F (74°C). The toast softens during storage.

Calculation notes & sources

ESTIMATED per serving. Brand, crop, preparation, draining, pan residue and substitutions change actual nutrition. Not laboratory analysis. Each ingredient retains its primary food description and state. All listed ingredient masses are counted; cooking moisture changes do not change the stated portion count. No generic nutrient-retention factor is invented. Calories are kcal; protein, total carbohydrate, fat and total sugar are grams. Total carbohydrate includes fiber and is not net carbohydrate. Fiber and sodium are not displayed. Equal portions or explicitly counted items define the stated recipe yield. US/Metric display changes do not change these canonical inputs. Primary-source supplements are retained per ingredient where USDA lacks a field; missing values are never silently changed to zero. One quarter of the entire tuna mixture and cheese tops each 40 g slice. Brands differ in bread density, salt and mayonnaise formulation. Fish, wheat, egg and dairy are present.
